October Events Round-Up

October is here, and so are plenty of events to keep your M4D calender full! Let us know in the comments or via email if you have an event you'd like to have included here.

7 October, Tech@State: mWomen (Washington, D.C., U.S.) Tech@State's latest event focuses on women and mobiles. Topics at the conference will cover the digital gender divide, mobile opportunities and benefits for women, and how to increase mobile access for women around the world. 

9-10 October, The Media Consortium: Independent Media Hackathon (Chicago, U.S.) This event brings together programmers and journalists for a two-day coding marathon. The event is designed "to develop apps within the frame of “News + Fun + Community," that creatively integrate delivery of news/commentary with game mechanics (including gaming, fun, interaction, calls to action)."

19-20 October, OSiM World (London, U.K.) The Open Software in Mobile World Conference will bring together more than 85 speakers from the open software community to discuss innovation and monetization in the open mobile market.

21 October, Mobile Design Conference and Workshop (Barcelona, Spain) Part of the Barcelona Design Week, The Mobile Design Conference and Workshop focuses on "the role of design in an increasingly complex ecosystem and the challenges [mobile developers/designers] see lying ahead: designing mobile services for a total mobile user city experience."

27-29 October, mLife (Brighton, U.K.) This conference allows researchers and practitioners to present on various mobile topics, including m-health, m-education, m-governance, and mobile development.

28-29 October, DroidCon (London, U.K.) This two-day conference is for anyone interested in developing apps and programs for Android mobile devices. The first day is a barcamp, and the second day is a more traditional conference. If you want to develop for Android, this is the event to check out. 

UPCOMING: 10-11 November, The 2nd International Conference on M4D (Kampala, Uganda) The M4D conference will combine presentations, demonstrations of projects and products, panel sessions and more to discuss how mobiles can be used for social aid and development around the world.
