August Events Round-Up

While August may be the month when the Northen Hemisphere is taking vacations, the mobile world is still cranking out events for developers and practitioners. Here's what's happening this month. As always, add an event in the comments if we missed it!

2 Aug. Tech@State (Washington, DC, U.S.A.) The occasional series of tech events at the US State Department in Washington DC., is hosting a morning of talks on mobile money. If you are in DC, register to come or watch the live stream from afar.

5 Aug. Mashable U.S. Summer Tour (Washington, D.C., U.S.A.): On August 5th, Mashable brings its web and social media tour to D.C.. The popular blog's event brings together contributors from Mashable and attendees interested in Web 2.0 and social media. (The tour also stops in New York City on August 9th and Chicago on August 11th.)

11 Aug. Mini Seedcamp (Johannesburg, South Africa): The Mini Seedcamp is an event that brings together tech entrepreneurs for a day of panels, presentations, and mentorship opportunities. 

12-13 Tech4Africa (Johannesburg, South Africa): After the mini Seedcamp, Tech4Africa is a two-day conference that covers web, mobile, and emerging technology in Africa, with a focus on what these technologies mean for business and society. 

13-15 Aug. SocialDev Camp (Chicago, U.S.A.): This two-day, developer-centric conference features sessions on apps, social media, a hackathon, and how-tos for developing for the mobile web.

17 Aug. Web Content Mavens: Making a Mobile Website (Washington, D.C., U.S.A.): We mentioned a Web Content Mavens event in last month's round-up, and this August they're back with "Making a Mobile Website," a guide to turning your website into an easily navigable mobile site. 

27-28 Aug. MakerFaire Africa (Nairobi, Kenya): MakerFaire brings together innovators in the ICT field from across Africa for a two-day event focused on supporting (and creating) local innovation.
