April Event Round-Up

Posted by AnneryanHeatwole on Mar 31, 2010

Spring has us ready to get out and share new ideas, so it’s time for our monthly event roundup. Below are some of the mobile events happening around the world that we think might be of interest to the MobileActive.org community. If you know of any great M4D events happening near you, let us know over email (info at mobileactive dot org) or in the comments or on our Facebook page.

FAILfaire, April 14 New York, NY: Of course, we have to start off with promoting our own FAILfaire, which is taking place on April 14th, 5:00-7:00 p.m., in New York City. At FAILfaire, we want to learn from each others’ failures in ICT and mobiles for development – speaking openly about what didn’t work is the best way to improve for the future. Gather round with some wine and a sense of humor, and get ready to talk about FAIL! Sign up here.

Think Mobile, April 7-8 New York, NY: Hosted by MediaBistro.com, this two-day event teaches media businesses how to use mobiles to market and monetize their brand. It will cover how to create mobile content (the mobile web, apps, etc...), how to engage a mobile audience, and how to stay relevant in the mobile media business.

Med-e-Tel: Benefits of Free/Libre Open Source Software in Health Care, April 14-16, Luxembourg, Belgium: Med-e-Tel’s FLOSS-HC track will be split over the three days of the Med-e-Tel conference, and has sessions on "Open Source Solutions in Healthcare,"  "Communities, Collaboration, Development Issues, Technology Transfer," "Sustainability and Community Building", "Open Source for Mobile Home Healthcare", "Collaborative Development, Social Networking, Services" and "Open Source in eHealth Infrastructure".

Africa Gathering: USA, April 23-24, Washington, D.C.: Africa Gathering conferences bring together people from all aspects of the technology industry (developers, entrepreneurs, inventors, and more) to talk about issues facing Africa today – everything from sustainable development, to social networking, education, the environment and good governance.

East Africa Com, April 27-28, Nairobi, Kenya: This two-day event is designed for businesses that want to learn more about the East African communication market (with a focus on Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda).
