Experimental Ring Tones

Here are a couple of ring tones that I made last week after being inspired from the Mobile Active conference. Feel free to pass them around and post your feedback so I can make them better :).
- Bush, “Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job,” overlaid with Arlo Guthrie’s “The Train They Call the City of New Orleans” (listen: streaming download: mp3 | amr)

- Bush on pre-war intelligence, mixed with some British rock/punk including Billy Bragg and Califone. (listen: streaming download: mp3 | amr)

- Take two of “Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job,” with Arlo Guthrie. (listen: streaming download:| mp3 | amr)

The political focus of these ring tones started after talking to Tonyo Cruz from TXTPower http://www.txtpower.org/ who gave me my first ring tone that didn’t come with my phone. It was the Hello Garci tone (read about it on CNN).

Tonyo gave me a CD with different versions that were passed around last spring during the huge protests against the election fraud. I have attached the different ring tones below this post.

I also talked with Evan Henshaw - Plath about Riot.ton.es, a distribution system for cell phone ring tones by grassroots activists that he is currently working on.   Jo Lee had a great write up on Evan’s work on the wiki here.

Nitty Gritty Detail About Homemade Ringtones

I wrote an article inspired by this discussion that gets really nitty gritty on the future and HOW-TO of homemade ringtones. Check it out. great job eric! http://www.personaldemocracy.com/node/750

Made a jivjiv store for this

http://jivjiv.com/hydo The ringtones are awaiting approval. Hopefully this doesn't take too long :)

barbara bush

awesome. maybe you can also do one of barbara bush saying "these people were underpriviliged anyway, [chuckle] so this is working out quite well for them" i have a copy of the mp3 if you are interested and can't find one.

City of New Orleans Writer

As a pedantic Chicagoan, I have to point out that "City of New Orleans" was written by the late great Steve Goodman, not Arlo Guthrie. From Wikipedia: "Seeing Arlo Guthrie in a bar, Goodman asked to be allowed to play a song for him. Guthrie grudgingly agreed on the condition that Goodman buy him a beer first; Goodman played "City of New Orleans" which Guthrie liked enough that he asked for the right to record it. Guthrie's version of the song became a hit in 1972, and provided Goodman with enough financial success to make his music a full-time career. The song would become an American standard, covered by many other musicians including Johnny Cash, Judy Collins, and Willie Nelson." http://tinyurl.com/827j5

I Made A Similar Ringtone

I made a Mr Cheney go fuck yourself rigntone, which you can get here

Brownie’s emails

I wish I had audio of Brownie’s emails seen here on boingboing http://www.boingboing.net/2005/11/03/michael_browns_email.html to turn into ringtone!

These two could be nice no? "Can I quit now? Can I come home?" and "Tie or not for tonight? Button-down blue shirt?"

an easy solution

Actually there is an easy solution... JivJiv.com allows one to upload homemade ringtones to its site to ones ringtone store. The ringtones can than either be purchased or set to "free." A person who buys the ringtone provides their cell-phone number and the ringtone is sent via SMS.

Jivjiv has a problem with copyrighted material

Jivjiv would not allow me to put the brownie and bush ringtone in my store since the song City of New Orleans is copyrighted. Is there any other way I can upload this to my phone???

txtmob

Another thought would be hooking into http://www.txtmob.com and having a link next to the ringtone saying “send link to my phone” at which time you could just enter your phone number and use txtmob’s sms gateway to send the link.
